1: “You can’t run an army without profanity”

2: “Ask them if they want me to give it back.”
-After being told not to march on Messina, already having captured it
3: “Rommel, you magnificent bastard!  I read your book!”
-Upon defeating Erwin Rommel’s forces in North Africa
4: “Remember that the enemy is just as frightened as you are, and probably more so.  They are not supermen.”
5: “A pint of sweat will save a gallon of blood.”
6: “Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men.”
7: “There are four hundred neatly marked graves somewhere in Sicily. All because one man went to sleep on the job. But they are German graves, because we caught the bastard asleep before they did.”
8: “A good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow.”
9: “Just drive down that road until you get blown up.”
-Instructions to reconnaissance troops
10: “May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't.”

There are many more, but I said 10!
This here is a collection of quotes by U.S. General George Patton. I know few of you care for Gen. Patton, but this is a start for a possible series of quotes by people (existing or otherwise), many of which you do care for. Tell me what you think of this one and I'll take the advice for other ones!

No:3 is not a historical quote but simply a movie line. Rommel's book was subject to an unauthorized abridged translation in the US and distributed to US officers for tactical studies - in 1944. By that time the fighting in North Africa was long over.

If there was one man that Hitler feared, it would be Patton. The guy was insane... he stopped his entire army's advance towards Berlin to pee in the Rhine River. Even in World War I, when the trenches were being bombed by aircraft he would jump out of them and fire his pistol at them. He was mad, but he was freaking awesome for it. :XD:

here's a fun fact: Patton's first campaign was to go find Pancho Villa. He ended up capturing Villa's second-in-command and returned to camp with the guy tied to the hood of his jeep

Strange, I'd seen it attributed to Patton. I'll check to see if it needs correction, then.

And sorry about the late response. With work like mine it's become the norm for me.

George S. Patton is without question one of the greatest generals who ever lived. I hope to one day live up to his ideal that "a pint of sweat saves a gallon of blood". Just wish that he would have lived to see the war's end.

Thanks for posting those. I think Patton is one of my all time favorite historical figures. The man took risks, but 99.9% of the time, he was right. I also love:
"The point of war is not to die for your country, it's to make the other poor S.O.B die for his."
and "Audacity, audacity, always audacity."
but there's soo darn many to choose from. Him and "Chesty" Puller are my favorites to quote. Those two were definitely cut from the same clothe.

"Take me to the brig, I want to see the real Marines" ~ Puller

There's also the one in my sigg as well as many others from him. Let me know if you have/put up any tributes to him too.

A good one as well. I do know there are quite a few good ones I missed, but I cut the list down to ten in order to do ones afterward from people who hadn't said so many fun things. Maybe I should make a second list to cover some of the ones I missed.

And sorry about the delayed response. I'm pretty busy nearly perpetually.

Hey I have a few

1.I am a soldier, I fight where i'm told, and I win Where I fight*
2.No good decision was ever made in a swivel chair
3.Many soldiers are led to faulty ideas of war by knowing too much about too little.
